Cultural Workshops
Weaving Workshops was founded on the principles of cultural heritage and community, born from a deep respect for the traditional practices of our ancestors. Our journey began with learning from the esteemed Aunty Ellen Trevorrow, a world-renowned artist and master weaver who has spent her lifetime honing her craft and sharing her knowledge with others. With her warm smile, gentle demeanour, and profound cultural knowledge, Aunty Ellen would captivate the room, transporting us to a world of beauty and tranquility. As you sat and yarned with her, our daily struggles would melt away, replaced by a sense of calm and clarity. In that moment, our problems would cease to exist, and we would find ourselves processing the issues at hand with ease. It was as if the stress and anxiety had been woven away, replaced by a sense of peace and tranquility.
As we look to the future, we are proud to announce that Mardawi, Aunty Ellen's nieces, are now taking the lead in our weaving workshops. The time has come for the next generation to take the reins and continue the legacy of preserving our cultural heritage. Mardawi brings their own unique perspective and energy to the role, while honouring the traditions and teachings of their aunty.
Through our weaving workshops, we aim to share this therapeutic experience with others, teaching the ancient art of Traditional Ngarrindjeri Weaving and the tools passed down through generations of our ancestors. By sharing our culture and traditions, we hope to create a sense of community and connection, where individuals can come together to heal, learn, and grow. As we continue to weave together, we are inspired by Aunty Ellen's passion and dedication to preserving our cultural heritage, and we are proud to be a part of this important work.
Under Mardawi's guidance, we look forward to continuing the legacy of Weaving Workshops, while also exploring new ways to share our culture and traditions with others. We believe that this traditional art form has the power to bring people together and promote healing and understanding, and we are committed to healing one stitch at a time and sharing this with the world.
